Friday Dec. 26th

The day after christmas, and one of my last full days at home. I'm lucky to have a place to relax and get away from everything, but two more days until I leave back for New York and then Florida. Even after a million times doing it, I still hate leaving home. Being away from everything gave me a chance to spend some time on writing, which was great - again, the musical ideas run rampant, and I search for subject matter that is inspiring to write about. There is so much though. I'm halfway through Michael Moore's (director of bowling for columbine) book 'stupid white men' - a lot of that stuff, even if it were exagerrated, is very eye opening. There was a foreword about how his publishing company wanted to heavily censor or even scrap the book after the september 11th attacks... I've read it and don't believe that there is much in there that could be truly considered, in context, offensive to those sensitive after the attacks. Most of the writing is simply stating facts, put together in a way that enables the reader to see through a lot of what is put in front of us by the media. Its so important that those with things to say don't get censored... especially for the sake of commercial viability... editing something for fear that it won't sell is not a good idea.
The new year approaches - 2004 has a good ring to it. Anyone that thinks we don't live in exciting times only needs to open their eyes a little. There is so much going on in our world - we face a lot of challenges now that the planet is getting smaller and smaller and most of us in the western world should spend just a small amount of time thinking about our consumption and where we are taking things from, because we all make a difference... especially the younger generation. Its a global, collective effort needed to make this world as fair as we can... difficult, but possible if we all make the effort to put leaders in place that care... have laws in place that don't let greedy companies have the political strength they do now. I may not know much, but money and greed should not really be in control of the planet. We're all better than that. Even the people at the top.
oh man... thats what I get for taking time off!... whoever doesn't like what i'm writing shouldn't read any of those books... you'll end up just the same...
